Bangkok and Cheapish Airfares

Unread post by blokeman »

This year there were no cheap December Airfares out of Australia, despite massive capacity/seat increases.
You would have to think collusion and collusion and price fixing. Even the three budget carries basically wanted 300% more than low season like $1600 return = enough to get USA return. So better you not go at xmas and go in Feb and before Easter.

http://www.expedia.com.br/ << Click on Voo and check here too - sometimes no-change bucket fares at 30% off.

Just remember Australia has highest cigarette and booze/alcohol prices, so a trip to Thai or Philippines can save - except for wine drinkers (effective 400% tariff). Throw in a dental checkup or filling and your return Duty Free allowance, and the flight has paid for itself.

China at $800 return (plus $105 for the Chinese Visa that you must pay) looks interesting. Stranger still that it is Cheaper than Bali, yet a much longer flight. The Chinese are asserting their dominance, and winning market share. Will be interesting to see how next year works out.

Just be wary on how much you bring in ciggys..... its 50 cigarettes allowance..... so if your a heavy smoker..... that won't last a week..... And also if your talking prices for ciggys and grog.... philppines and china tend to tie for being the cheapest place to buy both (will cost you a dollar for a pack of 20's and another dollar for a beer)..... and thailand is a bit more costly with those (but nowhere near aussie prices, cost $3 for a pack, and another $3 for beer), but it's tend to make up with cheaper hotels (generally thailand hotels are cheaper than philppines, but donno about china)

The only you can get around it is to bring a mate that doesn't smoke and use his allowance as well..... so you can bring in 100 ciggys or whatever...

You could risk bringing more..... but im not going to suggest things. One time my mate brought in 600 ciggys (but that was back when they had the 200 limit)

The only reason China is cheap this time of year is because its sooo damm cold there...... even i find bangkok quite cooler than expected.... And i hate cold, and my body tend to get sick if there a sudden temperature change.....

Never risk customs - Obey the law and stick to the limit. Besides D/F is a rip off.

Most of us got to Bali or LOS to have a few blinders, and gorge on booze/cancer sticks. This can pretty much pay the airfare, combined with other recreational activities. Then back at work/grindstone earning bucks again.

With good advice, you can grow your own, brew your own beers, and even this
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Househol ... 08282.html.

These don't work too well, the trick is an computer temp tracking induction hotplate - another $100 bucks.
Add the mess, the smell, plus a few bad first runs while you learn - you would have to be hard up. Plus you need a 2nd run through charcoal. A set of scales tells you if specific gravity is correct, but will not tell you if headache material is in.
In short finished product is shit till you nail the technique and mash.

With Australia having the WORLDS? highest excise rates, DIY brewing will take on, as will electronic cancer sticks.

The best way to get even is to 'give up' and stay OS longer. Quit today is the take home message.

With BKK on the boil, there should be some cheap airfares at short notice, randomly peppered about.

expedia.com.br , lastminute and skyscanner.net will have deals - but if you get the .au version, the prices will always be higher.
flyscoot (awful redeyes thru Singabore) but can be cheap if retired.

That and the devalued aussie rouble, means fewer pax - hopefull the airlines with stop price collusion, and sell according to 'bums on seats'

Your IP Address will strongly determine what you pay - Australian ISP?
Some airline booking software saves your IP address, so it can charge you more for the return ticket. So JQ out and Scoot to fly back in is a good trick to defeat that tactic.

Install Google Chrome Browser. (This way you can compare prices for like sites) Expedia.co.uk will give you a lower price, but other sites even less.

Goto Expedia.com.br, pick Voo's for flights and tap around Portuguese. At 2.12 Real to the aussiekangarouble you should get
SYD-BKK return for $650 or so on a DECENT Airline. IE Emirates has a 30Kg allowance and shitty arrival time. QF goes at a better timeslot. Sometime this tactic dos not work - ie Singapore loophole closing , as the QF ticketing conditions now openly price discriminate against Australians - but buying the discounted fare. 1300-1400 Reals is possible.
I suspect you may also get cracker deals in Arabic - Even the language option determines price.

You are right in a way. JetStar has lost its magic and they have lost at least 10 return flights off me while they jam a credit card deal - so you know you are not getting the best deal. Loosers. Scoot can be a pain - except for 24 hour flash deals, and AirAsia is all over the shop. M8 just scored Vn return for AUD 510 on AirAsia Sale for AUG/SEPT.

There are a zilion airfare tricks, what day you book on, weekend departures, assumed nationality

SPECIAL NOTE: BKK DUTY FREE: AUSTRALIANS CANNOT CARRY BOOZE BACK: IT WILL BE CONFISCATED.
