Avatar Creation

Unread postby lone ranger » Sat Mar 17, 2007 12:07 am

Evening fellow punters,

Forgive my ignorance but I have no idea of how to;
a) create an avatar or
b) copy a desired picture onto HL to use as an avatar

I've read the FAQs and done some googling with no success.

If anyone has some simple instructions or can provide a copy of a website address showing instructions or software downloads, it would be apreciated. I have enjoyed many of the avatars on the HL site and wish to maintain the same high standard.

It may also prevent some other mug asking the same stupid? questions

regards

If you want to use your own image, you need to reduce it in size. There are sites around that can do this for you.

Go to the bottom of your "profile" (above) for instructions on how to upload the image.

Mate, don't feel stupid. Three years on this site and I've never been able to figure out the avatar thing.

Boronia re Avatars

Unread postby lone ranger » Sat Mar 17, 2007 4:47 pm

thanks guys,

Have finished looking at 150 pages of avatars and identified a few choice ones, however still dont know [how to transfer yo HL profile (and yes I have tried !!) -HL automated response has been "signature too big" etc.

Boronia would you mind advising of specific websites that I can use to manipulate my own selected image to use in HL.

If those who have the knowledge share it, doesn't that contribute to the aims of the website ?

regards

Sorry, but it seems that you cannot create an avatar on your own computer and upload it to this board as I can on other similar boards.

You will need to find one elsewhere, then type in the URL (cut and paste the URL from the site where you pick it) in the box and <submit>

Notwithstanding this setback, a good site for creating avatars is
http://www.shrinkpictures.com/

Episode 6
When we last left out intrepid hero he was dangling on a cliffface!!

However Tonto rescued LR by PMing him with link !! Thanks also to Boronia for your advice.

Very tasty 7th cavalry to the rescue !!

No I dont know how to reduce the image to 100x100 due to the deafening silence from some other members.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi ho, Silver !!

Episode 7

LR is in dire danger again. Osama Bender Ladin PMed me and demanded that the 7th cavalry be removed or reduced to 100x100.

It would appear that Osama Bender Ladin ignored my post asking for assistance to create a 100x100 avatar.

So the 7th cavalry will have to go off-screen again.

Will our intrepid hero survive till episode 8 !!

Bender

I think you're jealous because my avatar moves and yours doesn't.

In all seriousness the reason why I posted about the avatar is because I did "piss off" and read the help files BEFORE posting.

If Thaimedown cant do it (see post) why do I get attitude ?

Avatars are never easy for many users because you often need both graphic design skills like photoshop to resize the image and sometimes web publising skills to upload your image.

I will be trialling hosting avatars on this site and writing a new help sometime this month.

Hopefully we'll simplify avatars soon but there's no deadlines so don't push it.

Bender

A sincere note of appreciation for your considered response.

(I thought about writing something extra of a humourous nature but I thought I wouldn't "push it").

Dont forget to post about your Thai girl and did you see the "tarni" post !!

regards
